These are a species of marine ray-finned fish, a type of snapper belonging to the family Lutjanidae. The red snapper is native to the western Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, where it inhabits environments associated with reefs.
 
For most of my life, I've lived near the Gulf of Mexico. At long last, I am learning to embrace the beauty that is the underwater realm.
