When a narcissist sees someone brilliant and talented and thriving, the envy is too much. They want to dim that glow. They want to break that spirit. They want to reduce the exceptional to ashes.
 
They can only feel good about themselves by trying to drag the stars from the sky. Not content to gaze at them in admiration, they try to dim them, one by one, until they stand in the perfect darkness of their own despair.
