Finding My Voice, Again and Again
By Loveday Funck

This week is a big one. Not just because I’m juggling three powerful events in three different spaces, but because each one, in its own way, is about reclaiming something that can so easily be taken from us: our voice.
On Saturday, July 12th, Reclaiming Your Voice opens at Kelwood Contemporary Art in Baton Rouge.
It’s not just an art show - it’s a reckoning.
This is a show about survival, truth-telling, and the kind of healing that can only come when we finally say out loud what we were taught to keep quiet. I’ve poured so much of myself into this exhibit - my artwork, yes, but also my story.
This one’s personal.
It’s about my experience with domestic violence, and the long, raw journey of coming back to myself. Of learning to speak my name without flinching.

🕯️ Expressions of Empowerment at The Red Shoes
Friday, July 11 | 6–8 PM | Soleful Space Gallery
I’m honored to be include as a visual artist for Expressions of Empowerment, a gallery opening at The Red Shoes in Baton Rouge. This is a sacred, intentional space for art that speaks to healing, transformation, and inner strength. Join us for an evening of soulful connection, quiet beauty, and powerful creative energy. RSVP encouraged.

Then, just two days later, on Sunday the 13th, I’ll be in New Orleans performing improv with my team Something Else at The Big Couch. This is a different kind of voice work: one rooted in joy, spontaneity, and connection. Improv is how I remember to play. To trust myself. To speak before I second-guess. It’s hilarity and heartache wrapped together on stage with friends who feel like family.
Three events. Three expressions of voice.
One through trauma and visual storytelling. One through stillness and soul. One through laughter and the wild unknown.
If you're local to Baton Rouge or New Orleans, I hope you’ll come to one or all of these. And even if you can’t make it, I hope you’ll ask yourself this:
Where have I lost my voice? Where might I reclaim it?
This week, I’m speaking up in gallery halls, sacred spaces, and on stage. Maybe it’s your turn too.

And before all of that, on Wednesday, July 10th at 11 AM, Tongue of the Serpent returns to YouTube with a brand new monologue episode: “Crossroads Confession.”
It’s Lucien’s voice this time: raw, haunted, and standing at the edge of transformation. This piece bridges Season One and Season Two, as he grapples with what’s been lost, what still lingers, and what must be left behind. It’s personal, poetic, and unsettling in all the right ways.
If you’ve followed the journey of the Krewe of the Morningstar, you won’t want to miss this. And if you haven’t yet… this is a powerful place to begin.
