Valentine's Day is hard and heavy with expectations: the perfect lover; the perfect gift. Western society has emphasized this notion that somewhere out there we have all some perfect soul mate; someone who can make us whole; someone who will shower us with love and attention.
I don't believe that. I believe we're already whole. I believe the perfect love we're looking for is us. Life may damage and break us, but we can and will repair that damage. We're already whole. We just need to remember to love ourselves.
We need to find that balance and harmony in our lives that gives us the time and space to remember the most important person in our lives: ourselves.
And, so we've reached the sixth stop on our journey around the Major Arcana; serendipitously, we've reached the Lovers.
The Lovers represent our need for balance: the balance between spiritual and material; the balance between our outer and inner lives. The Lovers represent our need for harmony.
We don't someone else to give our lives validity. We don't need someone else to tell us how valuable we are. The lesson of the Lovers is that we can do that for ourselves.
Love is everything and everywhere. Look for it in yourself. Look for it in your friends and your lovers. Life is all the better when we have people in our lives that resonate with us; that reflect our value back to us.
Find that person that speaks the same language of love as you; that makes your time in this world more pleasant. Return that love. Reflect back how valuable and wonderful they are.
**Personal aside** Being nice isn't a character flaw. Being full of generosity and compassion makes you wonderful, not weak.
